1) Short answer items has 3 types:
a) Question variety: asks direct questions to students and they should give short answers.
b) Completion variety: presents student with an incomplete sentence and requires the students to add one or more words to complete it.
c) Association variety: consists of a list of terms or a picture for which students have to recall numbers, labels, symbols, or other terms.
2) True-False items has 6 types:
a) True-false variety: presents a preposition that students judges true or false.
b) Yes-no variety: asks a direct question, to which a students answers yes or no.
c) Right-wrong variety: presents a computation, equation, or language sentence that the student judges as correct or incorrect (right or wrong).
d) Correction variety: requires a student to judge a proposition, as does the true-false variety, but the student is also required to correct any false statement to make it true.
e) Multiple true-false variety: similar to multiple choice item. However, instead of selecting one option as correct, the student treats every option as a separate true-false statement.
f) Yes-no with explanation variety: asks a direct question and requires the students to respond yes or no. In addition, the student must explain why his/her choice is correct.
Very nice topic. Teachers should get to know all the variations and types of exams to have a variety in the exam. Because the varieties would lead to a variety in the assessment, and the type of knowledge students have, and often the depth of their understanding...
