Educational Strategies

A teaching method comprises the principles and methods used for instructions. Commonly used teaching methods may include class participation, demonstration, recitation, memorization, or combinations of these. The choice of teaching method or methods to be used depends largely on the information or skill that is being taught and on the teacher, and it may also be influenced by the aptitude and enthusiasm of the students. There are many methods of teaching like: explaining, Demonstrating, Collaborating, and teaching by learning. Each teacher has his own method but sometimes the subject he teach requires him to use a certain method. Since I am a biology teacher the method that I prefer is the Demonstrating method. Demonstrating is the process of teaching through examples or experiments. For example, some lessons cannot be understandable until performing an experiment for students. A demonstration may be used to prove a fact through a combination of visual evidence and associated reasoning. Memorization of a list of facts is a detached and impersonal experience, whereas the same information, conveyed through demonstration, becomes personally relatable. Demonstrations help to raise student interest and reinforce memory retention because they provide connections between facts and real-world applications of those facts.

  1. According to me,the most important teaching method for student is questioning that would enhance their understanding of the subject and improve student’s critical thinking where with respect to me lecturing or explaining is an effective way for the teacher but is not effective for the students that made the subject very silly so the teacher should provide a real world and suitable examples that improve their understanding and choose any teaching method that is appropriate for their critical thinking.

  2. Teacher most use different strategies to attract the attention of students and activate prior knowledge and to use different models to have critical thinking with students during the discussion

  3. Students learn a lot from observations but they learn better from experimenting on their own. Demonstration is a good method but I believe you need to try to have your students do the experiments on their own, come up with their own conclusions and then you can demonstrate the right procedure if you need to do so.
